Head of Science and Promotion R&D Sun Care
Jürgen received Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany and joined afterwards Dragoco/Symrise in Germany to found their dedicated R&D Lab for skin bioactives, anti-microbial compounds and plant extracts. 1999 he moved to New Jersey, USA to manage the global skin care active business for Symrise. In 2003 Jürgen joined Roche/DSM to head skin care and later also the sun care research team and helped to integrate the new colleagues from Pentapharm R&D. Since more than a decade he is now dedicated to sun protection research. Under the Parsol brand he conducted numerous research aspects in sun care, e.g. about application properties, synergy and stability of UV filters, the relation of sensory features of sunscreens to the use level consumers apply and how complex SPF performance evolves on human skin on microscopic scale.
He is a delegate of the Swiss Norm Association in the ISO work group 7 for sun protection methods and worked on in vitro and in vivo SPF methodologies and a frequent lecturer in the “Intensive Course in Dermato-Cosmetic Sciences” in Brussels on sensory aspects.
